A trek through world of glamour
(Article by J.P.Mandal)
It was a beautiful afternoon and it called for a visit to a rooftop café. So Team Ecstatic Wings headed to one of the more beautiful rooftop cafés in town. It was Offbeat. Offbeat, by both name and nature.
The cafe is perched on 7th floor. The building which is right on EM Bypass was previously Landmark Hotel.

Luckily we were the first guests for the afternoon and thus got an empty café at our disposal. But not for long.
As we were thirsty we first ordered a couple of mocktails. I had heard a lot about Water Melon Mojito. So we ordered Water Melon mojito along with Peach Candy.
Both Peach Candy and Water Melon Mojito costed us Rs 180 apiece.
As the bartender went busy preparing our mocktails, we took a look around. The skyline of the Eastern Kolkata could be seen from café. On one side is the ever busy EM Bypass and the under construction Metro rail.
On the other side there the café gives a soothing view of a chunk of greenery and a large waterbody . The open area of the café has wooden tables and chairs. There are many pots with various plants to add greenery to the place.

Peach Candy and Watermelon Mojito
Soon our mocktails arrived. A Peach candy and a Watermelon mojito. There was very high expectations from the Water Melon Mojito and it didn’t disappointed. The mint leaves blends curiously well with pineapple to give an offbeat taste. That’s what to expect in Offbeat café.
The peach candy was on the sweeter side. Only those with sweet teeth should order it.
With our thirst quenched with the mocktails, it was time to decide our food.
After going through the considerably vast Menu, we choose Mushroom cheese balls (Rs 245) as our choice for starters. For the main course we went for Tawa Sabji Nizami (Rs 250) and a couple of Kulchas Rs 75 per piece).
. A few minutes later our starter Mushroom Cheese Balls had arrived. Eight balls of Mushroom and Cheese was served with Mayonnaise.
Cheese and Mayonnaise together creates divine magic on taste buds. But the Mushroom in the combo made the taste a little weird yet yummy. The cheese and mushroom combo took a little time to settle on tongue and when it did I could not stop putting more in my mouth.

Sabji Tawa Nizami actually turned out to be a stirred fried vegetables served in a rich gravy.

Sabzi Tawa Nizami
Overall Sabji Tawa Nizami got high marks as one of the better vegetarian side dish to be combined with Kulcha. Its spicy but not too far fetching. The Kulcha too was just as expected, perfectly stuffed, tasty but nothing out of the box addition in it.

Olive Naan being served at Offbeat CCU
ami so much that we decided to order a couple of Olive Naan (Rs 65 per piece) too to see how they go with the dish.

Olive Naan with Saabzi Tawa Nizami
The Olive Naan was tender and had a lovable smooth finish. One can see shredded olive and olive leaves sprinkled over the Naan. But when it comes to taste, those olive sprinkles do not make much difference, rather than the decortative outlook of the Naan. The spicy Sabzi Tawa Nizami did made a lovely combo with it.
As we continued pampering our taste buds we witnessed the sunset. The claim of the cafe is not baseless at all. The sunset is really a beautiful watch from the place. So soon afternoon turned into evening and the whole place became more magical. The Chinese lanterns hanging at the place gives it a surreal look Evening is the perfect time to be at Offbeat
